Richmond Sharing Farm

The Richmond Sharing Farm had an open house today from 10am-1pm. The sharing farm grows fruits, vegetables and herbs for the Richmond Food Bank, Community Meal programs and for local families in need. They were going to have some fun activities for the kids also. So, I decided to take the kids on a "where does our food come from?" tour.
The drive to the farm through river road was scenic and peaceful. One could see the Fraser river glistening under the clear blue skies. Once at the farm, Aaliyah decided to work on a painting first. She then painted her face too. A farm volunteer gave a guided tour of the farm and the plants. She even elaborated on the benefits of some of the herbs there. We learned about herbs and plants as mint, basil, rosemary, chamomile, lavender, lemon balm, strawberries, tomatoes, peppers, beets, carrots and garlic. Pretty informative.

Aaliyah wanted to see the carrots, the beets and the garlic. She was disappointed when I told her they grew under the ground. She was happy to see the green strawberries though. Now, when she eats her strawberries, she will know how it was grown. Later, we feasted on some yummy hot off the cob oven pizza, garnished with herbs from the farm. I took some pictures and then called it a day.
